Our Unique Vision

Our vision, "Empowering Tomorrow’s Catholic Woman", is unique in its efforts to entrust our young ladies with confidence and perseverance while fostering a love of faith. We strive to support our students as they work to move past societal barriers , while encouraging them to nurture a close relationship with God. As we continue to serve our students, we journey forward with our vision of “Empowering Tomorrow’s Catholic Woman”.

Our Legacy

Founded in 1907 as Sacred Heart Academy, Sacred Heart High School was one of the first Catholic girls’ high schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Established by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose at the request of Father Michael McAuliffe, it began with just 27 students and graduated its first class in 1911.

Originally located on Sichel Street, the school expanded in 1923 with a modern four-story building. After World War II, growing demand and the condemnation of the original structure led to the construction of a new brick campus on Griffin Avenue. In 1949, the school became known as Sacred Heart High School, and by 1957, included a new auditorium, cafeteria, and athletic yard—thanks to support from families and alumnae.

In 1979, the school became an Archdiocesan high school. Continued community support led to the construction of a new gymnasium in 2018, now a vibrant hub of student life and athletics.

Today, Sacred Heart High School remains dedicated to nurturing young women in faith, academic excellence, and the pursuit of Veritas—Truth.
